Thinkific is often a popular consideration for new course creators looking at their options, and pricing is always an important factor!
Beyond just the features Thinkific has to offer, the platform has a not-always-so-intuitive pricing plans structure that deserves more than just a quick glance.
And there might be a lot of questions you have regarding exactly what you get with each package, and any additional costs to consider.
Some of these can only be answered by experienced users, which may not be you if you’re just getting started.
This is why we’ve decided to break it all down in a digestible article for you!
Thinkific Pricing Overview
Let’s take a look at the overview of the Thinkific pricing plans overview before breaking it down:
So to recap, the main plans are the following:
- Free Plan
- Basic Plan – $49/month ($39/mo paid annually)
- Pro Plan – $99/month ($79/mo paid annually)
- Premier Plan – $499/month ($399/mo paid annually)
We’ll expand a bit later on how that compares to other online course platforms but let’s just make a note here that for a standalone LMS, not providing an email marketing tool, Thinkific is on the high end of the pricing range. To understand all about Thinkific features, check out our full review!
Now, let’s look into each of these a little more closely:
Thinkific Free Plan:
While most platforms offer a free trial, Thinkific actually has a forever free plan!
This can be a great way to get started using the platform without the pressure of remembering to cancel your account to not get charged…
What you get on that free plan is of course somewhat limited:
- You can only create and publish 1 courses
- You don’t get any email marketing or analytics integrations
- You can’t drip your course content
- Your courser pricing options are very limited
- You can’t use a custom domain
What you do get (for free!) is still just enough to set up and deliver a course, build a website and simple funnels, and get paid.Who is this for: If you just want to get something started to test a course idea as cheaply as possible, or simply test drive Thinkific, the free plan might be just what you need!
Thinkific Basic Plan:
The first paying plan Thinkific offers is the Basic plan.
You’ll start getting some of the essential tools needed for your marketing and student experience efforts.
- You will have access to the affiliate system
- You’ll get access to the Thinkific App Store
- Any of the limitations previously mentioned for the free plan will be lifted
The main limitation from the Basic plan you may encounter are the pricing options: you still can't create bundles and membership or payment plans.
Some of the advanced teaching tools you may be wanting to use won’t be accessible: Assignments, live lessons through Zoom, Certificates, Communities,...Who is this for: If you only need the basic tools for your course delivery and don’t mind the extra bells and whistles, then the Basic plan may be the right fit.
Thinkific Pro Plan:
This is the most popular plan and really when things start to get interesting!
Note that starting at $79 monthly, this plan is almost as expensive as what some all-in-one platforms like Kajabi or Kartra cost.
The most important additional features you get on the Pro plans are:
- No limit on pricing options: payment plans, subscription, coaching sessions, everything!
- Code access, for advanced customization and HTML/CSS editing
- You can now create Community, forum-like groups for your students
- You can create bundles and memberships
The rather steep jump of price between the Basic and Pro plan is justified by the fact that you really get access to the full feature set Thinkific has to offer here.
Note that you can also start adding other course authors and admin users to your site!Who is this for: If you need all of the features Thinkific has to offer including the advanced customization and teaching tools, then this is the plan for you!
Thinkific Premiere Plan:
This last plan is probably reserved to bigger companies, or people wanting some advanced support and integrations.
Not a whole lot to say as no real extra feature is added.
You will get more admin users and a Single sign on (SSO) option with this plan, as well as access to the Growth Package (see below)Who is this for: Probably big corporations liking the fact that they get a reliable SaaS for their courses, but also wanting deep integrations with their current systems.
Thinkific Plan Addon:
On top of these 4 plans we’ve just detailed, Thinkific also has 2 “addon” available to prop up your Pro plan.
The first one is the Growth Package
It gives you access to a few more features:
Note that you will have to pay $0.10 per active student above 100 students with this package. The second addon is Thinkific Plus
This again is a customized solutions for big entreprises needing some more access such as additional sites, a dedicated test sandbox and other extra goodies:
If you’re just a beginner course creator, this is probably not what you need!
This may be a great fit for course creators with a budget for strategy and help with not just “how” to build something in Kajabi but also “what” and “why”.
How Does Thinkific Pricing Compare with Competitors?
Now that we’ve broken down the different pricing plans Thinkific offers, let’s make a more direct comparison with its main competitors and see how it compares!
A quick note here, although platforms like Kajabi and New Zenler are competitors, they technically belong to the all-in-one category.
Meaning that they also include a native email marketing system and other more advanced features than Thinkific.
How does Thinkific Pricing compare to Teachable?
This is probably the most direct competitor of Thinkific!
Let’s take a look at Teachable pricing options (if you want to see the full breakdown, see here):
Teachable offers a 14 days free trial and 3 pricing plans:
- Basic – $29/month billed annually (or $39 paid monthly)
- Pro – $99/month billed annually(or $119 paid monthly)
- Business – $249/month billed annually ( or $299 paid monthly)
Teachable is slightly more affordable but really lacks a solid website and page builder that Thinkific has!

How does Thinkific Pricing compare to Kajabi?
Again, Kajabi does have a few more features than Thinkific, including an email marketing system and automations.
The main difference beyond the email feature, is that Kajabi does offer a sleeker UX and more customization on the course design side of things.
Kajabi offers a 14 days trial and 3 plans:
- Basic Plan – $149/month ($119/mo paid annually)
- Growth Plan – $199/month ($159/mo paid annually)
- Pro Plan – $399/month ($319/mo paid annually)

How does Thinkific Pricing compare to New Zenler?
To compare Thinkific to another popular all-in-one, let’s take a look at New Zenler’s pricing
As you can see, New Zenler is actually cheaper than Thinkific, considering the additional features it includes.
But Thinkific does have more learning tools and offers a more intuitive user interface than New Zenler.
New Zenler offers a Free Beta and 2 pricing plans:
- Pro plan - $447 per year (full price will be $1170/year) OR $67 per month
- Premium - $1167 per year (full price will be $5970/year) OR $197 per month

Thinkific Pricing – What’s the Best Plan for You?
So far, we have tried to objectively outline the different options you have when choosing a Thinkific plan and how that compares to other platforms.
Admittedly, Thinkific pricing packages aren’t the most intuitive out there!
And choosing the right one will depend on exactly what your needs are and what you’re looking for in terms of marketing tools and student experience.
I think most serious course creators will probably end up needing the Pro plan if they really grow their business.
But you may want to start with the Free or Basic plan to get your feet wet and start growing your sales first before going all in!
The good thing to note about the range of plans Thinkific has, is that you will hardly outgrow it!
Regardless of the number of courses you need or how many members you have, there will always be a plan that fits your need if the core features of Thinkific sound right for you.
Thinkific Pricing FAQs:
Q: Does Thinkific have any transaction fee?
All of the packages come with a 0% transaction fee and no hidden costs whatsoever to be aware of.
Of you course, you will still have to pay for the payment gateway handling fee (Stripe, Paypal)
Q: Do I need to pay for anything else?
As mentioned above, here is no hidden fee to take into account. That includes hosting and support.
But as a course creator, one of the main features you’ll be missing from Thinkific is an email marketing software.
This is something you can easily integrate with Thinkific but will have to pay for separately. The cost will vary depending on your email list size but can amount to another $50-$100 per month.
You will also need to pay for a domain name if you want to use a custom one with Thinkific.
Do I need a credit card to start a Thinkific account?
Yes and no.
If you want to start on the forever Free plan, then no credit card is required when creating an account.
However, if you want to start or upgrade to the paid plans, Thinkific does not offer any free trial and will require you to start paying right away (monthly or yearly).
Q: Is there any money-back guarantee?
All Thinkific pricing plans come with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee.
That means even if you get started with a paid plan (since there is no free trial), and don’t like the platform after a month, you can still ask for a full refund.
