What is FreshLearn?

FreshLearn (formerly Fresh LMS) is an american-based all-in-one platform that caters mostly to online course and membership creators.

According to their website they have helped over 13,000 creators sell their products online.

The main appeal of the platform in the industry is for its one-stop-shop feature stack and for its relatively low price.

These are both things we’ll review here to see what FreshLearn offers and how it compares in the online course platform industry.

Features: What Can You Do With FreshLearn?

Promising to be an all-in-one platform is not easy to deliver on.

FreshLearn does at first glance seem to offer a genuine comprehensive platform and features:

  • Website & page building
  • Blogging
  • Online courses with video hosting
  • Learning tools: quizzes, Assessments, Certificates
  • Email Marketing & Automation
  • CRM
  • Checkout & Payment
  • Affiliate system
  • Mobile app (Android only)
  • Community

Website & Page Building

FreshLearn has a page builder where individual pages can be linked together to build a website or a funnel.

There is no limit on the number of pages you can build.

You can start by picking from the several templates available:

After that you’ll enter the page builder which is composed of premade sections.

This is not a drag & drop builder and is somewhat limiting in your design options since you’ll have to follow each block’s type structure.

That being said there are several of these available for you:

But understand that you can’t exactly move the text or image or video to be exactly where you want it in the section and you can’t really add several rows to a section.

This may not be a major issue if you’re just planning on building a simple site… but it’s a little underwhelming compared to other popular all-in-one platforms in this area.

You can still build a fairly professional-looking page and website.

Lastly, a blog feature is available to start posting your stories:

This comes with a dynamic page to display each new blog entry.

Email Marketing & Automation

Another crucial feature of a course platform, as well as in your marketing strategy, is how you can send emails and create automated sequences.

This is something FreshLearn offers (not on the free account) with 3000 free emails and then $0.004/email until the 100k email limit per month.

The first thing to understand is that you can send Broadcast, date-based emails manually but not set up automated sequences based on a trigger.

You do have some automated system emails and notifications that go out - when someone purchases a course for instance.

But you can’t create a funnel with an optin page and form that would trigger an email sequence for instance.

This is a significant limitation that should be taken into account. Alternatively you can use the native Mailchimp integration or Zapier to connect an external email system.

The Broadcast email builder is fairly straightforward and user friendly:

You can drag and drop the different sections of your emails and save it as your template to reuse.

There is no real automation system to assign tags for leads.

Online Course Building & Community

A central feature of any course platform is its online product builder.

FreshLearn has several product types for you to choose from: Courses, Masterclass, Digital Downloads and Community.

Courses are going to be the main type with a regular curriculum builder.

You can break your course down in Modules and Chapters.

Each Chapter can contain one main piece of content: Video, Audio, Document, Embed, Quiz, Assignment and Live.

Video hosting is included in any plan and there seems to be no limit on it.

You can set any Chapter to be a Free Preview that prospect can see for free before purchasing your course.

As for learning tools, quizzes can be Single Choice, Multiple Choice or Short answer questions.

You can select which answer is Right and calculate a final score on the quiz for the student.

You can also set up Assignment where the student will be prompted to upload a file for your review to complete the module.

There are a few other settings for your Course to set up:

Pricing: This is where you’ll create your checkout and create one or several pricing for your course (more on that later)

Drip: You have the option to drip different parts of your course on a schedule that will start when a student starts the course.

Certificates: On completion you can deliver a certificate for your students to prove they have successfully completed the course.

Gamification: this is a lot more limited than the FreshLearn website makes it look and is simply a way to give points to students based on their modules completion (very basic).

Lastly, FreshLearn offers a Community feature.

This is very similar to a Facebook group (without the ads!).

You can create a Group and decide who can create posts in the community.

This feature is relatively basic but can be useful to add a sense of closed group to your programs.

Checkout & Affiliate Program

FreshLearn allows you to take payment and automate giving access to the product sold.

This works through an integration with Stripe, Paypal and Razorpay as payment methods.

Setting a price is done at the Product level and each of them can have different prices.

You can make a product free, charge a one-time payment or a recurring subscription.

Note that you can’t create a subscription with a free or paid trial period.

The customization of the checkout is more limited than a standard page but somewhat straightforward.

You can add custom fields to collect any information you want at checkout.

Taking care of checkout also allows FreshLearn to enable an affiliate program feature for you.

Which means that you can get someone to share their affiliate links to promote your course, which will give them a commission.

You can choose between a fixed amount of commission or a percentage of the sale.

Commissions have to be manually paid out, typically through Paypal - but FreshLearn does not help with that.

Other

Let’s finish up by briefly talking about other interesting features in FreshLearn:

Masterclass: This product type makes it easy for you to sell a live session. You can set up a registration page, a date and an easy system to five people the live link (which you still have to handle via zoom or other live video system)

Testimonial: Another life-improvement feature to help you keep all of your client reviews in one place and reuse them later in your marketing material.

Media Library: A simple tab to see and search through all of the files you have uploaded to the platform.

User Experience: Is FreshLearn Easy To Use?

The back-end of FreshLearn is easy to navigate and though there are a lot of features, it is simple to understand.

We particularly appreciate the many different ways to organize any menu with filters and search bars.

There are also several tooltips menus to explain what each option does throughout the platform.

From a student perspective, it’s also fairly straightforward.

You can even “Preview As A Member” the online courses.

The notable lack of customization for some features as we’ve already mentioned, such as the course design or the page builder, can be a drawback here.

And although there are a lot of ways to inject your branding in all parts of the platform, keep in mind you’ll have to upgrade to the highest plan (“No Brainer”) to be able to completely remove FreshLearn branding.

Pricing: How Much Is FreshLearn?

This is one of the most attractive aspects of FreshLearn.

As we’ve explored now, the platform does deliver to a good extent on its promise to be an all-in-one platform, which usually comes with a price tag.

But FreshLearn is also very affordable compared to other competitors.

You can start on the Free plan with unlimited courses, no transaction fees and pretty much all the main features FreshLearn offers, except for emails.

This is a great way to start with the platform.

You’ll probably want to upgrade to the Pro plan at $29/month (billed yearly) if you want to use the email system, use a custom domain or add Assessment to your programs.

Finally, to get access to the affiliate feature, advanced quizzes, more customization and branding, you’ll need to get the “No Brainer” plan at $49/month (billed yearly).

This is very affordable, considering most all-in-one platforms start at around $100/month.

How is the Support & Community for FreshLearn?

Your first access to some help on FreshLearn is via the Knowledge Base.

This is a bank of common questions you may have about specific features of the platform and tutorials to understand it better.

This is pretty simple but will help for 90% of your questions.

If you need further support, your access level will depend on your plan:

  • Free Plan: Email Support
  • Pro Plan: Email and Live Chat Support
  • No Brainer Plan: Call, Email and Live Chat Support

Note however that there is no community Facebook group right now to connect with fellow users of the platform.

Pros:

  • Very affordable all-in-one
  • Great set of features and options

Conclusion:

Overall, FreshLearn seems to be very underrated in the industry!

This newcomer offers a really well-rounded feature stack at a very affordable price.

Although it’s still important to understand some of the limitations, mainly on the page builder and email marketing side of things.

It’s definitely worth creating a Free Plan and see if it could be a good fit for you.
